When you're referred to an ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) specialist, here's what you can generally expect:
Referral Process: A referral from a Medical Doctor (MD) is required. This could come from a Family Doctor, a Walk-In Clinic, a Specialist, or a Telehealth service. The referring doctor will send your referral to the ENT's office.
Waiting List: Once your referral is received, you'll be placed on the ENT's waiting list. The office will not contact you immediately but will reach out once an appointment becomes available.
Triage and Urgency: The ENT doctors will prioritize referrals based on urgency. If your condition is considered urgent, you'll be given a priority appointment. Otherwise, you'll have to wait for an available slot.
Symptom Management: While waiting for your appointment, your referring doctor will help manage your symptoms. They may offer treatments or provide advice until you see the ENT specialist.
Booking the Appointment: Once your name reaches the top of the waiting list, the ENT office will contact you to schedule your appointment.
It’s important to stay in touch with your referring doctor for any immediate concerns or if your symptoms worsen while you wait.
